MOHAMED SHEHK of CriticalResistance.org joins S.T. Patrick to discuss the Prison Abolition Movement. The United States has the largest per capita prison population in the world – but why? What can be done about it? What needs to change in our thinking before anything can be done? We will also hear clips from two TEDx talks as well as a clip of activist Angela Davis’s views on prison abolition. This will really challenge what has become a common, widespread, bi-partisan belief in America.

In my white paper on racism, I noted that William Bennett (the self-appointed king of morals in America) was instrumental in creating the War on Drugs, which I suspect led directly to the proliferation of “drug mules” and the great expansion of prisons. BTW, that same William Bennett appeared on the Larry King show years later and declared that the way to cut crime drastically was to “kill all of the black babies”.
